Jason had a feeling that he knew he was in love with you, he had read enough romantic novels to know that what he was feeling was romantic.

He thought of you day and night.

Everything reminded him of you.

He couldn’t wait to be near you, craves it even as his mind raced with all the things that you could do together in his apartment as though you were an already pre-established couple.

He practically ticked off every box imaginable and he knew it but he wasn’t quite sold on this alone until he woke up to you cuddled up into his side, looking as though you belonged there, even tightening your grip on his shirt when he dared to move even in the slightest.

‘Five more minutes.’ You muttered into his neck, causing him to freeze but he was quick to relax and throw his arms over your waist to keep you close.

It was the domesticity of the moment that made Jason realise that he was in love with you, deep unadulterated love. He wanted to spend the rest of his life waking up to you and falling asleep with you in his arms because you fitted together like two missing pieces.

You were what he was missing and he wasn’t going to let you go anytime soon, not when he was brought to realises that he couldn’t live without you, not anymore. ‘It’s not my fault they’re an awesome teammate.’ Dick replied as he looked back at Raven and Garth as they looked back at him knowingly.

‘You often talk about them as though you’re in love with them.’ Raven countered.

‘I don’t talk about them like I’m in love,’ Dick laughed before looking over at Garth, ‘do I?’ He asks and Garth hummed. ‘You do. If you like them so much why don’t you ask them out on a date or something?’

Garth’s question stayed with Dick for the rest of the day as he recalled the times where he talked about you nonstop and wanted to smack himself for not seeing it before, he was so hellbent on never committing to something that he didn’t see that he was practically confessing his feelings for you in other ways.

Dick was scared, genuinely scared. So he decided to keep this revelation to himself and hope that one day it would fade away but he knew all too well that he was in too deep for that to be the case. Now he just keeps a tight lip on what he says to certain people in hopes that they don’t go back to you and spill everything.

Dick wanted to tell you himself but he fears that he might bring himself to do it in time.

Tim would be spending time with you when he realised he loved you.

Being with you just felt natural for him as he let you press up against his side as you did your own thing and he did his own on his laptop.

You could both exist in peaceful silence together without it getting awkward and that’s what Tim liked the most about you, he didn’t have to force anything to keep you engaged in anything he liked.

He even liked how you could match his sarcasm at times while also being caring about his well-being and mental health.

‘When was the last time you actually had decent sleep?’ You asked.

‘When did this become an interrogation, and a lacklustre one at that.’ He replied as you raised your brows to look at him. ‘Since you keep thinking it’s fine to neglect your basic human needs, wise ass.’ You told him. ‘keep this up and I’m wouldn’t be surprised to find you passed out on the floor somewhere.’ You add before putting down a glass of water and a plate full of food before leaving the room.

Tim glances over at the water and food and feels a warmth spread throughout him when he saw that you remembered his favourite meal.

Tim could show you anything technical and while you may not understand everything that was being said, it was the fact that you even bothered to continue to listen to him that made him realises that he might be in love with you. Your eyes held intrigue as he went over how his weapons worked, even giving you live demonstrations, but he couldn’t help but feel a little exposed under your gaze, you looked at him as though he was the most interesting person alive and he could feel his cheeks burn.

Tim knew he was in love with you for a long while but it just took that one moment for it to click within him.

The Hazbin Hotel fandom’s issue with accepting aromanticism and asexuality

Now that it is officially Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, I want to talk about this!

I find that, as an aroace myself, I am constantly grasping at good representation and coming up empty— it usually ends up in one of two ways.

One: the character is portrayed as emotionless, cold, and robotic in nature. It’s the question aromantic and/or asexual people are often asked: “Are you heartless?” The answer is no, of course, but general media makes it out to be the opposite.

Or two: Their lack of attraction is seen as something to “fix” because they “haven’t found the right one yet”, and they end up with a partner as a “happy ending”.

It frustrates me greatly because of how little people actually see aromanticism or asexuality as a true part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

So when I watched Hazbin Hotel, and I found out about Alastor being aroace, I was over the moon. I was on cloud nine. I also saw how his voice actor has looked up the term as an attempt to learn about aroaces, which makes me OVERJOYED?? Amir is truly a blessing, and I love that he’s proud to embody a character that’s part of our community. It’s so beautiful to finally have a proper character, a fan favorite at that, who just so happens to be aroace— and that’s another thing I love about this.

It’s never explicitly stated in the show (though it is stated in interviews), but it’s rather clear when you’re watching, isn’t it? Alastor’s aversion to any sort of sexual advancement, coupled with Rosie’s blatant “I know you’re an ace in the hole” comment sort of spell out his asexuality pretty clearly, as well as what side of the spectrum he falls upon. In addition, his Valentine’s day card was strictly platonic, which caters to his aromantic side. It feels so validating to finally be represented, to finally have a character in media who shares the same lack of interest in romance and sex as I do.

When I entered the fandom to look for more content, I kind of expected to see the same respect for Alastor’s orientation there too. But that… wasn’t the case? I am fully aware that aromanticism and asexuality are both spectrums— of course, aromantic and/or asexual people can enter those kinds of relationships. I’m not denying that and they belong in the community as much as anyone else on the spectrum.

But, the more I see the same line again and again and again, the more it feels like an excuse to just ship what you want.

Usually I don’t mind shipping? I’m often a firm believer in people shipping what they like as long as it’s harmless and they don’t go crazy over it. I also know for a fact that Viv doesn’t have a problem with people shipping her characters. They are fictional, after all.

But in this case, people are ignoring the very thing that makes Alastor a part of the aroace community! People are ignoring his lack of romantic or sexual attraction!

Is this not the same as changing a gay character’s orientation to suit a straight ship? If not, how so? I’m told that we are a part of this community, so why aren’t we being treated like it? Why is it so hard to accept the people on the end of the spectrum who aren’t interested?

Something I’ve been noticing throughout my life is that society has not exactly progressed very much on the idea of accepting asexual or aromantic identities. Maybe we have, a little, since the old days— but hell, people in “the old days”, which in truth wasn’t very long ago, believed that asexuality was a medical condition to be “fixed” by taking the right medication or having sex. That’s a pretty low bar to clear. And on the romance side, you’re seen as a “late bloomer” or “boring” if you don’t express interest. These days, being friends with someone is treated like a gateway to them possibly becoming a lover. Not getting married, not going on dates, not wanting a partner— it’s all treated like a crime when it’s not.

Maybe I’m selfish, or sensitive, or I’m butthurt over nothing, or I’m making it all about me. Maybe I’m gatekeeping or whatever the term is. But please, please, please, I just want an aroace character like me who simply is not interested in sex or romance.

And I want fandom to respect that. I admire the creations that fans make— the art, the animatics, the writing and the character analysis. And I want people to keep creating because creation is indeed a beautiful thing.

But I really would like people to treat aroace identities like they’re important. Like it’s more than just a spectrum to get wiggle room to wrangle in another ship.

You and Suna weren't together. Not anymore, at least.

There wasn't any fault on either side, nothing dramatic to split you apart. Just two people who weren't suited for a romantic relationship, as you came to bitterly realize. Maybe you could have made it work with some hard work and effort, but it was far easier to call it quits than risk spilling salt in the wound and ending up hating each other for the rest of your lives.

So you left it there, ending the symphony on a high note. You didn't stop to wonder what might have been, or dwell on the sound of music still ringing in your ears. It was over, there were no more heartbeats, no melodies. Only silence sung through your empty apartment.

You kept the breakup casual, agreeing to stay friends afterwards. Once those words fell from your lips, that was when it was set in stone. The line was drawn in the sand, strictly parting your relationship into the platonic category. Boundaries were made, silent promises to keep some distance between you.

But things were never that simple. After having you be his for so long, Suna didn't know how to let go of you just like that. Even the idea of being single felt foreign in his mind, the thought of you pushing away any chance of him falling for someone else. You were in a similar situation, still craving the addictive kind of love that only he could give you, yet reluctant to go back to how things were.

In the end, staying 'friends' was just a way to carefully avoid acknowledging the feelings still lingering in you both. He never stopped loving you, and you never stopped staring at your old pictures, both longing for the other like a missing limb. And just like clockwork, a phantom pain would strike and you would seek each other out again. The events played out the same way, over and over, like you were following a script.

It would go like this: every few nights, at least once a week, your name would flash across his screen. Suna would stare at it for a moment, relishing the sound of the distinct ringtone he set, so he always knew when it was you calling. It was the same contact as when you were together, the only change being the absence of the heart emoji beside your name.

It felt like your misery was aligned, your loneliness in sync, because every night that he was missing you the most, you would always end up calling.

Suna would answer the phone, seconds before it rung out, and pretend he wasn't waiting for the call. He'd entertain your small talk and excuses, whatever feeble reason you'd come up with to justify ringing him late at night, as long as he got the chance to hear your voice again.

Sometimes it was just that: a phone call. Sometimes, it was only a message. Sometimes, when the loneliness was hitting you both harder than you could bear, he would find some way to suggest meeting up.

It was always something simple, something harmless. A late-night run to the convenience store for snacks, or a walk around that park you loved, or just driving around until you were tired enough to fall asleep. And you would always find some excuse, or some reason to say no, but in the end you would always cave.

Suna would be out of his house in minutes, sliding the key into his ignition. He would meet you outside of your apartment, wordlessly opening the door for you to enter the passenger seat. And the seat would already be adjusted to how you like, because there's no one else he lets into his car, but you’d fiddle with the lever at the side anyway. Anything to pretend that at least one of you has moved on enough to be seeing someone new.

As he drives, his hand would stray from the gear shift, crossing to your side of the car, but never quite reaching your thigh. And you would pretend not to notice the halted movement, and pretend not to feel disappointed when he brought both hands to the wheel.

Maybe he'd make a remark about how it was just like old times, and maybe you would laugh and brush it off, but the story always ends the same no matter how he played the game. He was on a losing streak, gambling away his pride every time you called, but his self-control always seemed to loosen once the sun went down.

It was a little pathetic, when he focused on it for too long. It was no wonder his friends kept calling him a loser, when he came crawling back to you, his ex, the second you rang. At the very least, you were as pathetic as he was if you were the one dialing his number, but maybe that was just because you knew he'd pick up. You got everything you needed, a shoulder to cry on, a person to keep you company, all without the hassle of officially having a boyfriend again.

On his weaker nights, he would get sick of waiting around, and be the one to send the first message. You would answer quickly, although not as quickly as he did. The response would always be the same, and it would always go the same way.

Sometimes, during your meet-ups, you would be the one to cut them short, quietly asking Suna to drive you home. He would try not to look disappointed, and you would try not to slam the door as you left.

On your weaker nights, you wouldn't bother with trying to make up an excuse when he invites you to crash at his place instead. He would say to you “My house is closer”, or “We can watch a movie”, or “You always sleep better around someone else, don't you?” and you would defeatedly agree.

He would take you home—his home, not yours, though it used to be both—and you would leave your shoes by the door. You'd set up the blankets on the couch, and he’d bring you a glass of water, and you'd turn the channel to some trashy reality TV show that neither of you paid any attention to.

If you were feeling particularly down, and he was feeling particularly bold, he'd slide his arm around your shoulders to pull you close. It kills him, not knowing if the way you lean into him means anything, or if you're just craving the contact. He doesn't ask, not daring to disturb the unstable peace that you've built between yourselves, lest the whole unspoken arrangement come crashing down.

In the morning, when you wake up with his arms around your waist and one of your hands gripping a fistful of his shirt, you will peel yourself away quietly, and tiptoe away to find your shoes. He will find you right as you're about to leave, sluggishly running a hand through his hair as he mumbles something about staying for breakfast.

Then, after a brief back-and-forth, you will agree that the night was a mistake, that you're better as something closer to friends, and Suna will restrain himself from kissing you goodbye. You both will retreat to your own beds in your own homes, and imagine there is someone laying beside you to warm up the cold sheets.

Suna will shrug his shoulders when the possibility of a blind date is suggested to him by a friend, as though he has any interest in a partner who isn’t you. And you will nod along to your friends when they tell you to delete his number, even though you know in your gut that you never will have the courage to.

You'll ignore his messages for a while, and he'll pretend that means you've started to move on. You will both go about your lives as you always do, day after day, each acting as though you're doing fine on your own, and lying to your friends when they ask if you've cut contact yet.

But neither of you will be surprised when a week later, early in the morning when you should be sleeping, your name lights up on Suna's screen.

locking eye contact with the girl in the mirror, she offered you a small smile which you returned with an excited grin, the new spark in your eye at the thought of going back to your bestfriend, as you were going to do something. hold her hand. kiss her cheek. you werent sure yet, but you knew it would just happen.

you rushed out of the bathroom back to the table, about to slip into your previous spot next to aitana, who was deeply engaged in a conversation with patri, alexia, mapi and lucy. until some drunk person knocked into you, causing you to lose balance and stumble onto your bestfriends lap, who gripped onto your hips to stabilise you on her lap.

now, it was common for people on the team to sometimes sit on their friends lap, but the wolf whistle from patri made you tense up as lucy laughed and joked that “you and aitana looked like a couple” you missed the blush coating aitanas cheeks and now only feared that your fellow lioness had caught onto your crush.

pushing yourself off aitanas lap and missing the newfound frown on her face, you rushed out of the bar, needing some fresh air to hopefully cool your face and regulate your breathing.

lucy followed you out, making sure you were safe by your self, and came to sit next to you on the curb.

Luke: Loves to fall asleep in your lap while you both watch a movie. The second you wrap your arms around him like you're cradling a baby, he will fall asleep. Will adamantly deny it in all days ending in "Y".

Getting up to eat or go to the bathroom isn't much of an issue. He'll weakly wrap his arms around your neck to try and stop you. Again his grip isn't that strong. Carry him to his bed once you're done.

Barbatos: Does he even sleep? /j Not big on cuddling, finds it difficult to slip away in the early morning to do his duties as a loyal butler. Simeon: Loves to fall asleep with his face nestled in your hair and being the big spoon. Will wrap you in his arms and legs to ensure no one can take you from him.

He'll pretend to be asleep if you leave the bed. Once you return he'll still look peaceful and undisturbed. Wrap yourself in his arms again and he'll murmur a sweet "welcome back/ I missed you".

Diavolo: Make this demon prince the little spoon I beg you. Loves to be cuddled. Many don't approach him so casually because of his title so when you wrap him in your arms he melts faster than ice cream in death valley. He'll snuggle deeper into your arms with a smile on his face as he drifts off.

Before laying down he will come into the room with a tray of all your favorite snacks and drinks. He needs you to know that he prepared everything himself. Leave to go to the bathroom and he's wide- eyed and waiting. Feels 10x colder without your presence.

Raphael: Likes when you fall asleep with you head in his lap, he'll stroke your hair/ face while humming a soothing tune. Will sleep sitting up as he feels like he needs to be alert at a moments notice because some demons will try and take kidnap you.

Will feel you stir and get up, if you're going to get a snack he'll accompany you to the kitchen and, "Hey there's some of Solomon's cooking still in the fridge! You can have the first bite." He'll give you your space if you're going to the bathroom.

Thirteen: She loves when you nuzzle into her chest. The feeling of your warm steady breath calms her and lulls her into a blissful sleep. She'll wrap her arms around you, not wanting to let you go.

Good luck leaving her arms, let alone the room. Has tons of traps laid out, some you made together. If you manage to get out, congrats! Beel probably beat you to the kitchen and I'd imagine you're about to explode if you need the bathroom.

Mephisto: Honestly such a soft demon, practically purrs into your arms once alone. Will nuzzle himself into your chest. To keep up his façade of how a noble demon should act he'll make it sound like he's doing you a favor, as you're a precious part in Diavolo's dreams, so obviously this is why he has to cuddle with you to go to sleep. A happy human is good for everyone.

No reason to leave the room for a snack, just ring the little bell on his night stand and a butler or maid demon will be happy to get you anything you need. Has a bathroom connected to his room, hurry back. Would feel like a bad host if he doesn't check on you after a while, will knock on the door if you take too long.

Solomon: Likes when you rest you head on his chest. The fact that you want to be this close to him at all makes his head swirl. He'll wrap one or both his arms around you trying to feel in your heartbeats are in sync with his own.

He doesn't wake up if you need to leave the room, yet subconsciously he'll feel restless and move around on the bed as if searching you you. Once you return he sighs contently and wraps you in his arms once more.

✉ ─── i've been talking about doing this event for quite some time now after i was introduced to ghibli movies and here it is! there is no deadline for this event because i am only accepting a number of requests, further explanation, along with the rules, below.

What its like hugging the creepypasta characters

jeff and ben and toby are the only ones written as strictly platonic but the others can be seen either or! kind of wanted to do something easy for creepypasta characters (+ masky and hoodie) since i missed writing for these bozos </3 that said requests for creepypasta are open so crp fans go ham! return to this blogs roots! rah! written more as a rating as well as how it actually feels to hug them and not really a scenario that leads to you guys hugging yk?

SLENDERMAN:

very tall and skinny, maybe even boney. im still trying to decide if slenderman/slenderbeings have internal organs/bones/ect... though i can say that slenderman is fairly cold. hes not ICE cold, but hes noticeably cooler than your average person. can adjust his height to better suit his needs, so you dont have to worry about literally climbing him like a tree if you want to give him some affection... likes wrapping some of his tentacles around you during an embrace. not bone crushing, but not... well now its hard to explain, he seems odd with affection, not too sure how long or how tight to hold you... but hes learning! 7/10 love him, my tall wife

SPLENDORMAN:

very similar to slenderman in the regard that hes also very skinny and tall, though i do think hes just a teeeeeeny tiiiiiiny warmer than his brother! not by much but its a noticeable difference! loves lightly swinging you around before tugging you close to his chest, sometimes sways a little while holding you! holds you a little tighter than slenderman does. perhaps even nests his head on top of yours when you guys hug. honestly i can see him having a habit of just picking you up and carrying you around, platonic or romantic it doesnt matter, hes going to do it unless you express that you dont like it... 8/10 due to him being a little less cold (emotionally and physically)

EYELESS JACK:

now this ones ice cold, like youre going to need to bundle up if you want to cuddle up next to him since hes going to just snatch the heat out of you in a few minutes. admin personally hcs him to be on the shorter and thicker side, so theres that at least! very soft! generally not the type to seek out affection, though, so youre going to need to step up and initiate a lot of that stuff. not that he doesnt want it, he just doesnt really think about it all that much + he may or may not fear taking a bite out of you. shrugs... though i like to think that despite that, he can give some solid hugs! 6/10

LAUGHING JACK:

very warm, always seeking attention and affection from you so hugs are not in short supply. sometimes purrs when you guys hug, and similar to splendorman hes going to swing you around a bit.. though sometimes he gets too into it or too excited and it comes off more as thrashing you around. probably when hes feeling a little sillier than usual he pokes his cone nose into your cheek (gently). wraps his arms around you, like. totally around you since his arms can stretch and they dont really have.... bones... you know? probably sometimes hugs you from behind, typically after sneaking up behind you/poofing behind you from his smoke thing 8/10, would say 10/10 but i think he might accidentally crush you to death

MASKY/TIM:

not... very.. good at hugs. at most youre going to get one of those side hugs from him, at least when hes awake. sometimes when you two cuddle and he falls asleep, hes wrapping his arms around you and locking you in to his chest. normal body heat, maybe a little above average, but nothing too insane since hes still a human... hmm... doesnt really give those two armed hugs unless hes sleeping or you were just in danger. adrenaline and fear can do a lot to someone, you know... 6.5/10 masky gets a higher score than EJ since hes warmer

as for tim, hes a little more open to giving you affection, i think! while masky only really does it when you ask, i like to think that tim might be more likely to do it unprompted! likes resting his head/chin/jaw on your shoulder or head, depends on the height difference! 7/10

HOODIE/BRIAN:

i think in general i tend to type hoodie as a touch more open/social than masky.. masky tends to be a little... eh... he expresses stuff less than hoodie, at least in my take. shrugs. i do think hoodie likes to hug you from behind when youre doing something. very tall, personally hc him to be roughly 6 feet tall. neither buff nor skinny, have some pudge. generally very comfy, plus his hoodie is sometimes nice and soft, sometimes warm if you've managed to get him to wash it! likes swaying you a little while he looks over your shoulder to see what youre doing, only occasionally letting go to sign something to you.. 8/10

brian is more or less the same, but hes verbal so his hands are staying put on you. i also think hes a little bolder and more willing to just hold you whenever, let that man be affectionate with the reader! if this is romantic he likely puts his hands on your hips.. also 8/10

TICCI TOBY:

very affection starved, i think, but he also doesnt really initiate anything due to a deep rooted fear of rejection. so youre going to need to take the lead here! skin and bones, very cold since skinny people tend to be colder (at least in my experience with hugging!). when you guys do hug he does tend to hold you a little too tight. he doesnt mean anything malicious by it, its just that hes truly not used to hugging people and also subconsciously he doesnt want the hug to end, you know? 7/10 me thinks

BEN DROWNED:

very short very cold and... damp? i personally headcannon that the most of the time hes in a digital device, but on the rare chance hes in the real world... hes very cold and as previously mentioned damp. might also have a general electric buzz about him, too. kind of like holding a cold soggy plushie straight from a washing machine. not at all pleasant but he cant help it :( 4/10 the ghost boy does not make a good hugger there isnt much else to be said

JEFF THE KILLER:

very lanky, admin also headcannons him to be very tall. like 6'2. lanky fucker. probably a "where's my hug" person but not in the gross neckbeard way and more so mocking those kinds of people because the look you give him makes him lose his shit and cackle. his jacket kind of smells, youre going to have to get him to go wash it. it doesnt smell putrid or anything but it definitely needs a wash. what being a dude on the run after committing homicide does to a mf 5/10 only because he has a weird aura

PUPPETEER:

VERY lanky and VERY cold, kind of rigid thanks to his weird puppet joints. kind of like hugging a wooden puppet. i dont think thats a pleasant thing.... hm... is usually slightly levitating off of the ground so its even harder to get a hold of him, given that hes also already really tall as is... you have to make him stop hunching over so you can actually get in there. absolutely basks in the fact that youre giving your time and energy to him, kind of gets annoying with it sometimes but thats just him being an ass. 6/10 but only because i fuck with him sometimes when i remember him

Some weirdos shippers on Twitter/X keep bringing up the “Episode 1: Insider Guide” CD-ROM which comes with annotations on knowledge from the early drafts of The Phantom Menace because of one specific annotation it provides which is heavily taken out of context as a way to argue their ship being real or “almost” real, so I thought I’d take the time to break it down and explain how absurd they really sound.

Insider guide reveals that Padmé was 12-13 in the early drafts of TPM, grew an admiration for OWK because he stood up to the queen (it literally states that she was “impressed” which is a word typically associated to the direct result of forming an admiration or respect for someone.) and that explains why she gave him adoring/admiring looks, and also quite literally states that she watches him with “interest and respect.” (Very indicative to the true nature on her affection.) Mind you, OWK was 30 in the early drafts and Padmé was the same age as Anakin (12-13) OWK was old enough to be considered Anakin’s “father figure”, so wouldn’t it be interesting to claim that this logic wouldn’t also apply to Padmé somehow??

It should be noted that OWK (whom is actually really Qui-Gon in the early drafts for TPM before they were switched out.) is only said to be nervous due to constantly being gawked at by someone and it makes him slightly uncomfortable as anyone would feel if they were being stared at. Not any indication of reciprocal affection or romantic attraction (should go without saying since he is a 30 yo man feeling uncomfortable with a 12-13 yo girl watching him with such admiration 🤡) Trying to amount something out of what’s clearly a childlike hero-worship of a 12-13 child over a 30 yo man is a wild ass assumption especially when the nature of Padmé’s fascination with OWK in the early drafts are quite clearly meant to be seen as kiddish admiration instead of romantic love.

Insider Guide annotation subtitled it “A crush?” (Which is funnily enough posed as a question rather than a straight fact.) is to engage the reader with a quirky composition. It’s not supposed to be taken seriously. Think of it equivalent to a click bait title on a YT video. Falling for it shows your lack of comprehension since the information provided in the annotation itself is very apparent about what it’s saying and implying. *All while Anakin and Padmé have a handful of tender and sweet moments together, obviously laying down the groundwork for a budding romance, and Padmé relationship with OWK remains strictly as an alliance with no tender or personal moments apart from professional and respectful ones with an undertone that would exist only between an authority figure and a child*

There's no verbal or direct acknowledgment in the early script on neither Padmé or any other character through the dialogue or anything else that her interest is even equivalent to a romantic crush, the only thing that's hinted at is that it's out of respect which is more so equal to an adolescent admiration for an authoritative personality, and only exists for about 2 scenes (see the footnote: pages 33, 43-44.) before fading into nothing as the story goes on. (Definitive of how irrelevant it’s supposed to be, so much that it was completely discarded in the end product as it wouldn’t contribute to the plot in any way.) And ironically, it fades into nothing after Padmé meets Anakin (lol, apart from the fact that her fascination with him wasn’t at all lasting and ended up being totally forgotten, the argument that this was supposed to be a setup for a future subplot to make Anakin jealous is a false interpretation as well.) plus the fact that not every crush is = to wanting a romance with someone. Platonic crushes aka admiration of someone is very much a thing as well, especially if you’re at the tender young age of 12, cause at that point crushes aren’t really romantic pursuits or interest, it’s always heavy on admiration and respectful affection, which is quite obviously what was being presented as the case in the Insider Guide.

Yeah, so in conclusion, I wanted to put this all out here cause some proshippers really be using the Insider Guide as proof that ob*d*la was supposed to be a thing without ever diving deep into the actual content it provided, and instead took at face value what misleading screenrant articles had to say then rolled with it, lmao.

Shit for the goblins is pretty rough. Riz is having a time trying to get the goblins from the fae wilds to accept and maybe stop being afraid of the written word? Its a whole thing. There are and have been massive book burns because all literature is bad and wrong. Riz really wants to put up schools and better goblin kind on a whole but the old beliefs and traditions are stubborn and convincing the elders to adopt new ideas is just.. a rock and a hard place especially since he wants to do it diplomatic

Anyway he's having a time

Adine wants to make it so the unseelie court and the elves stop beefing with the goblins. Its a whole thing.

Adine and Riz have a lavender wedding but it's strictly political/platonic and at first the high elves are pissed. How dare our Oracle attach herself to such a creature.

Riz and Adine jokingly start referring to one another as 'My beloved husband' or ' my darling wife' and ironically it's healthy because their marriage is just a cover and their friendship is pretty solid to begin with.

Plus like the whole matter of the 'sex' thing if it should even arise it's not uncommon for a king or a queen to have consorts or concubines or whatever. I like to imagine the goblin kings in the past were nasty bastards and it wouldn't be uncommon for people to assume Riz has half an army of concubines to pull from and Adine is the elven oracle so of course she's getting formal asks? Request? Whatever the official wording is she's getting letters where high elves are throwing themselves at her feet. Joy.

I like to imagine that the courts believe that they have a genuine romance (which is fucking sad because just being nice to the people around you shouldn't be a clear indicator of romantic love but apparently it is) because like they would be nice to one another and get each other food and drink and just check in at social events to be like all is well? I think at first while navigating the courts and the parties and just the fancy bullshit they cling to one another because they are the only ones they know at these things. Plus like they already DO love one another it's just not the typical romance. They absolutely do care about one another's well being so they arnt lying about that. Also like they would absolutely get teased over how 'they are taking their time to make an heir' and absolutely asked a shit ton of invasive questions.

"Mmmm yes oracle, I hear goblins are quite nasty while dancing in the bedroom but it seems as though you made it off your back alright."

Adine is horrified and pissed.

Anyway waaaay after things settle Fabian comes to visit and he and Riz don't talk about what they have. But Fabian must see The Ball it's been far, far too long.

Adine absolutely playing match maker. Telling Fabian he should scale the wall and climb in through the window because she read it in a book once and it seemed very cute. It's not cute actually Riz gets spooked and blasts a hole in Fabians shoulder and he falls to his death. Fabian is so mad when he comes back. Riz is very apologetic but also like scolding Fabian for CLIMBING THROUGH HIS WINDOW!

Maybe this blows out of proportion and a rumor starts in the courts with the goblin king having a sexual appetite for elves or a secret lover. It absolutely blows the fuck up.

Maybe it's a lil joke between Adine and Fabian where he comes to visit and she's like 'ah how horrible. You've returned again to steal my husband. How can I ever compete.'

And Fabian has a dramatic monologue "Haha yes It is I FABIAN SEACASTER HERE TO WISK AWAY YOUR HUSBAND HAHA."

Riz hates it. It's so dumb but he'll play along. "Oh nooooo I'm being whisked away. Drat. How dreadful. Woe is me." And Fabian yoinks him up and they scamper away to the next room to have tea or whatever.

Fabian absolutely, out of spite masters the art of scaling walls and climbing into that window. It's so dramatic how could he not? It's adventurous.

Riz hates that but whatever. He hovers over the window while Fabian climbs and sweats the entire time as he goes worried he's gonna fall again. He doesn't. Gosh Riz always such a worry wart. It's way less dramatic when he does that.

Back from the dead again and I can't stop thinking about the character potential regarding Nanna & Forseti (if Norse saga was made into a trilogy).

For me, I imagined the relationship between Baldur and his family would be complicated/strained (and possibly divorced form his wife). Because of Baldur's invulnerability (and insanity), he's unable to "give" any form of love towards his family(?).

Just imagine the angst that Baldur is unable to feel any form of affection from his own family, especially Nanna (unable to feel her hugs & kisses) 💔.

Also!- I found a few fan depiction of Nanna in GOW before Ragnarök came into existence. Most of them are deleted off of Tumblr, but they're fun to imagine! :)

Those are some very intriguing and unique pieces in terms of how they portray the side of Baldur that the series/SMS never got to show us. And, let's face it, chose not to because Baldur was reduced to a plot device and driving force in everyone's story but his own. Introducing a new layer to his character in the form of his marital relationship and family of his own could have been an excellent way to flesh out his existence outside of the decisions of others: be it Freya's removal of his agency out of love and misguided desire to protect him no matter the cost. Or Odin's toxic influence and Baldur falling under it completely when in his view Freya became strictly antagonistic due to the invulnerability spell she'd cast on him and Odin began to look like the "lesser evil" in comparison to Baldur's traumatized mind.

From canon, we also know that Odin's manipulative and abusive tactic of choice was to isolate his victim, both as means to control them and as means to "punish" them for refusing to submit.

First, he tried to convince Freya she would need no one but him after their marriage drove the wedge between her and her people. Said people made it disturbingly easy for him to perpetuate that narrative because they themselves adhered to the thinking Freya was meant to exist solely for their benefit and their own good. That if she chose to exercise her free will despite their disapproval by marrying Odin no matter the scorn she was met with - including from her own brother - in hopes it brings peace between the Aesir and Vanir then her decisions and marriage - and consent - became a "condition". Which she could never revoke, not even when her emotional and physical safety were in jeopardy.

Ultimately, Freya's people and family (on both Vanir and Aesir side) subscribed to the very same narrative that Odin aspired to create to control her and Baldur: that she is the "treacherous" type who betrayed her people and then betrayed her husband and her daring to exercise her agency resulted in the prolonged war. Odin was, thus, just another "victim" of a selfish and scheming femme fatale who was "wronged" by her.

Odin's decision to trap Freya in Midgard without her powers was a continuation of that isolating pattern (this time in the form of punishment, as noted above) - and yet again her people eagerly perpetuated it because none of them bothered to seek her out and learn her side of things. None of them also bothered to help her break those abusive ties before she met Kratos. Who was the only one actively going up against Odin's narratives about Freya even when she was justifiably angry with him and tried to kill him.

Moreover, Kratos is the only one who openly told Freya there was "no shame" in doing what she thought was necessary to protect her people.

Baldur never got to have a relationship like this in his life, whether platonic or romantic, within the Gow canon. Therefore him having a family of his own could have been exactly the route necessary for his independent functioning. I can imagine his wife being supportive of him and loving him to the best of her ability but as you note, because of Baldur's own inability to feel he would inevitably take distance from his family, seeing himself as unworthy of them and unable to return their love; and hating his mother even more for that.

An adult child faced with a classic situation of a flawed parent who cared (Freya) and a toxic and narcissistic parent who only ever used him for his own ends (Odin), Baldur started gravitating towards the latter; which is typical for such situations. His desire to please Odin (something Baldur had been endeavoring to do, according to Freya, since he was a young boy) was amplified by his distance from his mother and his growing resentment of her. It is a common mindset for a person from a dysfunctional family to grow closer to the more toxic parent due to seeing them as "at least honest" about their disdain and lack of respect for their own child. Rather than the loving but flawed parent who made mistakes because "they claimed to love me but then they hurt me anyway".

Add misogyny into the mix and how women are held to impossible standards in the society in terms of everything including parenting and are thought of as deserving of a death penalty for being anything but perfect in that department. Whilst men can be flat out terrible parents but receive the aforementioned "at least he's honest" get out of jail free card.

With Baldur learning the workings of marital relationship and parenting firsthand he could have gained some perspective on his own parents. He would choose to be an emotionally distant parent (like Odin) instead of taking a risk and daring to show love to his wife and child despite the challenges of his condition/inability to actually feel said love. Because to him, that route would be seen as "the lesser evil" than to try and fail, like Freya did.

If we are going with the HC/scenario that Baldur does return from the dead eventually to finally reclaim his agency and recover, him having a woman who loves him waiting for him and Freya learning she has a grandchild she can do right by (just like she canonically wanted to do right by Atreus because according to her he reminded her of young Baldur) would make a way for a necessary challenge and much needed character development. It would, most importantly, prompt Baldur to do what Freya did - to choose to be a spouse and parent who tries no matter the inevitable mistakes, and to understand where she was coming from eventually.

♪ summary: es may have done some.. pretty strange decisions and now not only the guard and the guilty prisoners, but everyone has to deal with it, including you. you can't help but feel bad for the guilty ones, and hopefully, you can offer them at least some kind of support.

♪ warnings: description of fuuta and mahiru being in pain because of their injuries, the reader character doesn't know about mikoto and john being a system, but still treats them as respectfully as possible, mentions of cults and religious trauma in amane's section. fuuta, mahiru and mikoto parts can be seen as both romantic and platonic, meanwhile amane's part is strictly platonic.

♪ fuuta was.. in terrible condition, to say the least. his personality was so different from the fuuta you knew, too. sure, you've met him not so long ago, but seeing him act like this felt.. weird. you actually kinda missed the old fuuta, yes, he was kinda rude, loud and said things without thinking, but you'd prefer that than seeing fuuta in pain and not being able to say a word. you wish you could help him somehow, but.. what could you do? you doubt that convincing es to forgive him is possible..

♪ you tried to support him at least in an emotional way, even though you knew that might not work. it's highly possible he won't be able to see with his right eye ever again, of course, that's extremely traumatizing. he also got beat up by kotoko out of all prisoners, who actually seemed to be similar to him in a way. but you told him that if fuuta wanted to talk to you about anything, like complain about something or vent, he could always do that. fuuta found your kindness weird and even suspicious at first, but.. fine, he could use a friend in a situation like this. or at least a person who could hear him out.

♪ fuuta finds himself coming to you more often than he thought he would. it's not like he has that many people to talk to here anyway. he's grateful to kazui (even though he doesn't want to admit it), but.. he's not sure if there is anything he can talk to him about. haruka and muu are really close now, it honestly feels like haruka has forgotten about everyone else. oh, but surprisingly, fuuta's been getting along with amane lately- what do you mean, you "have a bad feeling about this", y/n?.. 

♪ you will never actually hear this from him, but you can feel that fuuta is glad to have someone like you here. he looks calmer with you around and if he can't open up to anyone else about something, at least he can open up to you. it's easier for him to fall asleep when you're next to him, so you may find him suddenly doing so with his head on your shoulder or your lap. just, uh.. be prepared for him to be really flustered when he wakes up and sees you.

mahiru shiina.

♪ she's honestly surprised that you want to spend time with her and help her feel better despite her being voted guilty. she immediately starts joking (or maybe half-joking?..) about falling in love with you because of your kindness and you just roll your eyes and ask if she's okay and if she's in any pain. you remind her to take her medications, you ask shidou for help if her condition gets worse and you help her move around with her wheelchair, so that she doesn't feel isolated from the rest of the prisoners. being in milgram is already isolating enough.

♪ you try to help her feel better by doing things that are small and simple to you, but very meaningful to her. you brush her hair, you paint her nails (even if you can only do so on one hand for now..), you tell her that she still looks beautiful, and every time you do that, it makes her smile. it's still different from that usual smile of hers, but it's a smile that shows even though she's still suffering, she appreciates you being around. 

♪ mahiru doesn't understand why you're still helping her. is this because you love her?.. ah, please forgive her, that's just her being her usual silly self. but still.. she wasn't forgiven, right? that means she was in the wrong.. but she doesn't understand what made es vote her guilty. all she did was love her boyfriend a lot, right? does that mean that her love itself is a sin?.. is she not allowed to love at all?.. you gently interrupt mahiru and say that you don't know why es refused to forgive her, but you personally don't think mahiru's love is a sin at all. in fact, it's a blessing.

♪ mahiru feels like the sun itself personified to you and you hope that she gets better soon, but you're also grateful for the opportunity to take care of her like this. she always gives so much love to everyone, you wonder how much she gets back. you softly pat her head while making sure it's not painful considering her injury and ask what she wants to do today, but it takes a while for mahiru to answer because of your words still ringing in her head, but in a good way.

amane momose.

♪ .. so why exactly es decided to vote a child guilty? you know you probably shouldn't say anything about the guard's decisions, but.. this just doesn't make any sense to you. just what did es see in amane's video? or maybe something happened during the interrogation? amane's behavior has changed a lot, but you don't blame her for it. of course she would start acting differently. she's a 12 year old who was voted guilty and almost got beaten up by kotoko, kotoko ending up not doing anything to her was honestly a miracle. of course she would be mad. she should be.

♪ you try to talk to her and she kinda ignores you at first. however, you're not as bad as shidou, so.. fine, maybe she can hang out with you a little bit. it's hard not to feel sorry for her though, because of how messy her hair is and how empty her eyes are. you try to cheer her up somehow, like maybe you can do something really cute with her hair or maybe you can cook something for her (while still respecting her dietary restrictions and not forcing her to eat something she's not allowed to).. amane finds your attempts to become closer with her strange, but.. maybe she could use some company.

♪ every time she mentions her "god" around you though, you try to change the topic. you like amane and you genuinely want this kid to get better, but you're not really feeling like becoming a part of a cult.. amane just sighs and says you'll understand it someday. sometimes you catch her mumbling something about being forgiven this time and es needing to make the correct judgement. you can't really help her much when it happens and you can't do anything other than say that es will definitely forgive her, but amane manages to turn even something simple as that into rambles about her god. you can't help but wonder what amane's life used to be like.

♪ you can't convince amane that her family wasn't as kind as she thinks they were. you can't convince her that the way she was raised was too cruel. you know she won't believe you. and you know you're not a therapist. but at least you can be her friend. at least you can gently guide her, while still giving her a choice, so that she feels more free. more free than she possibly ever was in her life. and even though amane never talks about it, she does appreciate it. she feels strangely warm when you're around. she wonders if it's okay to feel this way and if god would ever forgive her for that. 

mikoto kayano.

♪ you didn't know why mikoto suddenly started to act like this. you tried to get at least some information from others, including es, but nobody gave you a proper answer, even though you had a feeling like kotoko and es know what's going on. for some reason, this mikoto just didn't.. feel like mikoto to you. it's like it was.. different mikoto? no, that doesn't sound right. it felt like it was a completely different person. you couldn't prove it and when you tried to say it out loud, it sounded weird, but.. it felt like a correct answer to you. 

♪ when it felt like it was the mikoto you knew, you always made sure to tell him what's going on, what happened, basically all the information he needed. he always looked so lost and confused, you couldn't help but feel sorry for him. you assumed that it was probably because of the trauma related to being voted guilty. you actually couldn't understand es's decision at all. just why would they vote someone like mikoto guilty? was his video really that bad? it didn't feel like mikoto was pretending to be less smarter than he is. why would he even have to do that? you all are murderers here, there's no reason for him to try and trick anyone.

♪ when it felt like it was someone else, you still tried to treat him with kindness. you couldn't understand why everyone started to avoid this person so suddenly. yes, this person was.. quite different from mikoto, but.. maybe at least they could try to accept him? you actually found it surprising how quickly he calmed down after you showed him that you don't intend to hurt him or mikoto. maybe this was the only thing he needed: someone telling him that he's safe and that he's not in danger. or maybe it was something they both needed.

♪ both mikoto and this person seem to actually like you a lot.. well, it's not like they have much of a choice here, considering that other prisoners don't really want to spend time with them. but it looks like they don't mind it that much. yes, mikoto is definitely still worried about it and he doesn't seem to remember what happens when the other person is here, but the other guy doesn't really care about the other prisoners and the only thing that bothers him is how possibly dangerous they can be. and even though he still has his suspicions.. you don't seem that dangerous to him.

Reframing Luke's crush on Annabeth

I firmly believe the pjo fandom has these arguments over Luke's death scene confession because Rick is a hack writer who fumbled Luke's character. Annabeth and Luke's relationship was fine being strictly platonic, and Luke having a sudden crush on Annabeth was just another sacrifice on the altar of his trash main ship, Percabeth.

But...I have been thinking about it a little this past week, and I think Luke developing a crush on Annabeth could work.

Not mainly as something to further demonise Luke as a villain (adult men should not be making advances on teenage girls), but a tool to serve as a reflection of just how broken Luke was by his life circumstances as a result of the prophecy.

If you look at Luke through the lens of him:

Having emotional arrested development due to a lack of proper care during his formative childhood years

Becoming codependent on Annabeth after his and Thalia's falling out

Not having any other long-term stable relationships besides Annabeth

It's possible Luke's platonic feelings towards Annabeth could have become warped. Or maybe like Annabeth, he could have become somewhat confused by how he truly felt about her - meaning he still loved her deep down as a little sister, but due to his messed up emotional situation the feelings started to seem romantic.

Just food for thought. Even as someone in her twenties with an overall loving family and friends, I sometimes don't know if the feelings I have for the guys I like are platonic or romantic. Throw in Luke's emotional turmoil, and it's possible he got confused at some point too.

I am still a firm believer that Luke's feelings towards Annabeth were strictly platonic since he showed no signs of sexual attraction to her. However, if Rick wanted to push it, it could work, but not because Luke is a child abuser or a creepy pedo like the antis keep throwing around like candy. Not even unhinged book 1 & 2 Luke seemed like the type to be a pedo, even though Rick focused on him as Annabeth's crush. And for the second version of Luke in book 3 and onwards, the family aspect of his relationship with Annabeth was pushed to centre stage.

For your Gilded Cage au, I'm curious about each dynamic Ford, Stan, and Liam would have, how they view and interact with one another.

Liam is less boisterous than his canon counterpart, his personality more jaded and pessimistic than outgoing. He's reclusive by choice, which means his social skills are incredibly rusty (not that he ever really had any in the first place considering that he was an outcast to his species). He's also chaotic neutral.

With this in mind, lets get into their dynamics!

Liam & Ford

At first, Ford would only see Liam as a means to an end. But, when Liam started to mellow out (having come to terms with his servitude to the Stan twins), Ford would naturally become curious about Liam. Ford would want to study him, but would be unable to because he needs Liam's consent as per their contract. This was a miscalculation on Liam's part, because an obsession began to fester in Ford. And eventually, instead of just wanting to study Liam's physical form, he wants to know everything. Ford would come to see Liam as an equal, his muse and closest friend, but to an unhealthy degree. Ford's relationship with Liam is strictly platonic, but it has a tendency to come off as romantic because of how intense Ford is. Very all or nothing with him.

Liam & Stan

Stan also considers Liam a tool at first, but steadily becomes attached to Liam because of how similar they are. And thus, there's a mutual understanding between them within the first week of Liam's lifelong servitude. Initially, Stan would be flirty simply to make Liam uncomfortable, but it would eventually become genuine. Stan would speak to Liam very intimately, giving him petnames and introducing him to others as family. Stan would actually be the first one that Liam would form a sort of friendship with, Ford following after. Stan wouldn't have a romantic interest in Liam either, but (like Ford) his love can come off as romantic because where Ford is controlling, Stan is possessive. Liam is his. His bookkeeper, his weapon, his advisor, his family.

Ford & Stan

Biggest change to their timeline was the fact that the perpetual motion machine was never broken, but that's because Ford and Stan never grew apart like in canon. Ford had actually talked things out with Stan, the two coming to a compromise. Ford would go to West Coast Tech and Stan would come with him, the two moving out after they both graduated. They remain close even as Stan moves out and their paths diverge, Ford staying in college to get his twelve PhD's while Stan falls in with a gang and works his way up the ranks. They keep in contact via Stan calling Ford on a payphone, though Stan isn't comfortable with meeting Ford in person since the gang is dogging his every step to keep him in line. He cracks when Ford pleads with him though, agreeing to let his brother take him somewhere nice for an evening. It only serves to remind them both of that hole inside them, which is only filled when they're together. But they both have ambitions, goals that could take their entire lifetime to achieve. So, Ford decides to speed the process along by looking for a little cosmic assistance in the form of a sentient triangle.

Liam & Ford & Stan

Contrary to what you'd expect, the brothers don't fight over Liam's attention. Each brother has their own dynamic with Liam, so it's very rare that the two actively clash when it comes to their mutual friend. When the three of them are together (which becomes a common occurrence once Liam helps the brothers get the ball rolling in terms of their goals), they act as if Liam is their little brother even though he's thousands of years older than them. Liam maintains an emotional distance between him and the brothers, but he can't help but care about them after a certain point. He's still moody and aloof when interacting with them, but he would give his life without hesitation if it meant that they could live.

Something I’ve been thinking about… because of recent moominous events & also the classes I’m taking:

Queer artistry is so so special. & when a queer artist creates something, it resonates with other queer people. The art becomes inherently queer. I think it could probably be debated if all art made by a queer person is, necessarily, queer- separation of art and artist and all that- but at least I think that’s the case.

The question is: does this remain the case after the artist is gone and their art is altered? You probably see where I’m going with this. We think of these characters as inherently queer because of their long and storied history, but at the same time, we know that Moominvalley has changed these characters, too. I’m not going to definitively state that they’re made… not queer, because I don’t believe that to be fully true, but if fundamental aspects of their character and how we perceive it can be changed, can their queerness be so as well? And if the queerness is not erased, then what is it? tamped down? undermined? mishandled?

& Maybe this is the point where you go “okay static it’s not that deep” but I really do think it is! Moominvalley 2019 mishandles a lot of things, i daresay even skirts around the queerness of itself without fully leaving it out. Here is my main case: If they were going to be more explicit with Moomin and Snufkin’s queercoding, that very much should have been followed through with. & let’s speak on how much Moominvalley played around with and constantly changed the nature of Snorkmaiden and Moomin’s romantic relationship with little to no actual explanation or context? Guys I don’t know. It’s odd, it’s weird, and it certainly doesn’t sit right with me.

To me, Season 3 left off in a place where Snufkin and Moomin’s relationship was at it’s tipping point between romantic and platonic- the season literally ends with them arm and arm- And that’s why season 4 falls flat in the demonstration of their relationship. I never expected season 4 to deliver on that front in the first place- by season 2 I felt that the Moomin/Snufkin moments were heavy handed and a bit too forced to be completely natural, and I knew it wasn’t about to become explicitly canon in the first place because Moomin and Snufkin never have been- but to me it’s about follow through and writing, and the fact they were dropping such obnoxious hints only for that tension to be dropped last season feels like both a cop-out, and perhaps even intentional.

The contemporary Moomin boom occurred in 2019, in the wake of the series. Shippers went wild. absolutely nuts. If Moomin has no fans, the world is dead, but this definitely contributed to a spike in viewership. and listen. Season 1 had its flaws but if every season onwards was of the same quality, and each season included the snufmin subtext only as much as season 1, I would not be upset right now. I do, in fact, believe, that the queer fanbase of this show was teased and strung along with the Moomin/Snufkin relationship. And I think the way it was handled in season 4 was due to the fact that they wouldn’t need that part of the show to, excuse my terminology, bait viewers along because it was the last season. Obviously this is all speculation, but I really don’t think it’s all that unlikely. And I’m not even saying that it’s strictly the writers’ fault, but I think there was someone in power who let the queer shit- the shit was was just obvious enough to give young queer viewers fuel- pass by for as long as it was useful, but by no means could the show surpass a certain limit.

Ahem anyways I love Moomins and I dislike Moominvalley 2019… for many reasons but also for this… sorry for incoherencies, typos, the like.
